«Earth» is a silent film by Oleksandr Dovzhenko that was released in 1930. The film depicts the life and struggles of Ukrainian peasants during the Soviet collectivization in the early 1930s. Despite harsh criticism before its release, the film eventually gained recognition in Ukraine and abroad.
The «Earth» collection aims to honor one of the most outstanding works of world cinema. The unique aesthetics of the film served as inspiration for creating three mismatched socks that can be combined in any format. Each sock is adorned with a quote from the film on one side and a symbolic ornament on the other.
The Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Center is the largest film archive in Ukraine, preserving over 9,000 titles of Ukrainian and foreign artistic, documentary, and animated films, as well as thousands of archival documents on the history of Ukrainian cinema. Founded in 1994, it is now one of the most dynamic cultural institutions in Ukraine with broad international representation in the film industry. The Dovzhenko Center combines a modern film storage facility with a climate control system, the only film laboratory in Ukraine, a cinema museum, a paper film archive, a media library, and a publishing house, and carries out the preservation, popularization, research, and dissemination of national film heritage in Ukraine and abroad.
